The THAAD U.S. missile defense system successfully intercepted its target during a Tuesday missile testing, the Missile Defense Agency said.
The test of the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense or THAAD system involved shooting down an intermediate-range ballistic missile.
“This test further demonstrates the capabilities of the THAAD weapon system and its ability to intercept and destroy ballistic missile threats. THAAD continues to protect our citizens,” said MDA Director Lt. Gen. Sam Greaves. It marked the 14th successful intercept in 14 attempts for the THAAD weapons system.
The U.S has THAAD installations in Guam and South Korea to defend against threats from North Korea.
